Beyoncé, de 33 anos, liderou as principais indicações na categoria R&B, incluindo Melhor Apresentação R&B e Melhor Canção R&B pelo seu single «Drunk in Love» com o marido, o rapper Jay Z.
Com um total de 51 indicações ao longo da carreira musical, Beyoncé tornou-se a artista mais indicada na história do Grammy, passando o produtor David Foster.
Smith, de 22 anos, recebeu cinco indicações, inclusive para Gravação do Ano por «Stay with Me» e para o cobiçado prémio de Melhor Artista Revelação, ao lado da australiana Iggy Azalea, dos britânicos do Bastille, do cantor Brandy Clark e das americanas Haim.
Smith ainda foi indicado na categoria Canção do Ano por «Stay with Me» e Melhor Álbum de Pop Vocal por «In the Lonely Hour».
